Iran hostage crisis = winner was Iran hostage crisis<br \/>\nGay liberation movement v. Moon landing = winner was moon landing<\/p>\n<p>Final Four matchups: Energy crisis beat Roe v. Wade; Moon landing beat Iran hostage crisis<\/p>\n<p>Ultimate winner: 1970s energy crisis<\/p>\n<p>On the exam, you should be able to place ANY of these eight events\/terms on a timeline or organize them chronologically, define them, explain their historical context, and argue for the importance of 4 of them when placed in Final 8 match-ups on the exam. As before, you may bring a 3&#215;5 notecard, and the HOT documents book.<\/p>\n<p>And the exam questions ended up like this (yes, all will appear on the exam):<\/p>\n<p>What effect did Watergate have on American culture and politics?<br \/>\nWere Americans metaphorically \u201ctaken hostage\u201d in the 1970s; why or why not?<br \/>\nHow did the Cold War change in the 1960s and 1970s?<br \/>\nWhat were the new conservatives seeking to \u201cconserve\u201d? How were the ideas of the new conservatives expressed during Reagan\u2019s terms in office?<br \/>\nIdentify some key cultural shifts from the late 1960s to the early 1980s, and discuss their origins and\/or consequences.<br \/>\nHow were women\u2019s lives changing during this period? Construct an answer that draws on multiple perspectives.<\/p>\n<p>In the week after the exam, our focus turns to the Research Paper:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fri 4\/4 Peer Review Day<\/strong> &#8211; Bring your <strong>Research Paper Draft<\/strong> to class<br \/>\n<strong>*Update* &#8211; the &#8220;Test Your Thesis&#8221; slide<\/strong> is now posted under the <a href=\"http:\/\/wsu.tonahangen.com\/hi203\/research-paper\/\">Research Paper tab<\/a> above<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mon 4\/7 Right, Left, Liberal, Conservative<\/strong>. Reading and activities = Investigate the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.people-press.org\/typology\/\">2011 Pew Political Typolog<\/a>y study by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.people-press.org\/typology\/\">reading the report<\/a> (focus on Section 1 pages 1-26), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.people-press.org\/typology\/quiz\/?src=typology-report\">taking the quiz<\/a>, and watching the brief overview video (below).
