Democracy in Practice, Part I
by admin - September 17th, 2014
What was American democracy like in the first half of the 19th century? Would it be recognizable to us as “democracy”? What was happening with voting rights in this era (and why)?
Harvard professor Alexander Keyssar takes on these questions in Chapters 2 and 3 of The Right to Vote. Please read carefully and bring the book with you, ready to discuss.
REMINDER: You will re-take the citizenship exam next Thursday, so please study the 100 questions. They are available from your copy of the exam from Day 1, or the links on our first day of class post, from the resource packet on course reserve at the library, or many places online (even as a smartphone app).
