Women’s Suffrage – Oct 16
by admin - October 13th, 2018
For today’s class, we explore the long fight for women to achieve meaningful voting rights.
Read Waldman, pp. 97-124, and prepare a 2-3 page response paper on one or more of these questions:
Why did it take so long for women to achieve the right to vote?
In what sense was the struggle for the 19th Amendment part of the larger Progressive movement?
Who were some of the key figures in this struggle, and which ones were new to you?
What role did the states, public protest, acts of civil disobedience, and the courts play in helping to win women’s voting rights?
Was the right for women to vote “granted to them” or was it “won by them”? Explain.
